How the tools work

Each tool is a lightweight page that uses nothing but your browser: the microphone is read through the Web Audio API and the pitch is detected on your own device, in real time. No audio is sent to a server and nothing is recorded.

The tuners detect pitch with the YIN method, accurate to about one cent, and show the needle, the cents and whether to tighten or loosen the string. The metronome and the tone generator run on the browser's audio clock, so the timing stays steady even on modest phones.

Why in the browser

You don't need an account, an install or any permission beyond the microphone. It works on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac and Linux, in any current browser. Bookmark the page or add it to your home screen to use it like an app.

Frequently asked questions

Are the tools really free?

Yes. Every tool on this site is free and needs no sign-up. The site is supported by discreet ads, kept away from the controls.

Is my microphone audio sent anywhere?

No. Note detection happens inside your browser, on your device. No audio ever leaves your phone or computer.

Why does my browser ask for microphone permission?

Because that is the only way the page can hear your instrument or your voice. The permission applies to this site only, and you can revoke it from the lock icon next to the address bar.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, the tools keep working even if your connection drops, because all the processing is local.
