Online harp: 26 strings in C major
This virtual harp has 26 strings in C major, from C3 to G6. Pitches rise from left to right, with red Cs and blue Fs as landmarks. Pluck one string or slide across several for a glissando. On a phone, scroll the playing field to reach the highest strings.
How to use it
- Pluck one string at a time and follow the names along the base. Choose keyboard shortcuts in Labels to play using computer keys.
- Start with C–E–G as an arpeggio. Then slide from one red C to the next to hear an octave of C major.
- Select Record, play, then stop. Listen to your performance and download MIDI or WAV. MIDI uses the General MIDI harp program.
Help and explanations
Sound is synthesized on your device using harmonic partials and nylon-string decay. This is a simplified diatonic model, without pedals, levers, chromatic alterations or advanced damping techniques.
Why red and blue strings?
According to Dusty Strings, C strings are usually red and F strings blue or black, with exceptions in Central and South American harps. Names accompany the colours here, so colour recognition is not required.
Diatonic and pedal harps
A diatonic harp tuned in C has seven natural notes per octave. Levers or pedals change accidentals on physical instruments. This version retains natural notes; its virtual range was chosen for practice and does not represent a specific manufacturer.
Tips
- Adjacent strings are not always the same musical interval apart: E–F and B–C are semitones.
- Release after plucking. The string continues to resonate.
