Help and explanations

The reed-like sound sustains while you hold a key. The virtual instrument helps you learn notes; bellows control requires physical practice.

Stradella layout

Columns follow fifths; F and G sit beside C. Rows are counter bass, fundamental bass, major, minor, seventh and diminished. Counter bass is the root’s major third. Source: HOHNER.

Chords and practice

Major and minor triads contain three notes. Seventh and diminished chords omit the fifth in this model; physical voicings and registers vary. The exercise alternates root, major chord, fifth and major chord. Local sessions end at 3 minutes or 1,200 events.

For the left hand, first find the C bass and its major chord. Practise bass and chord presents the root bass, major chord, fifth bass and major chord in order. Find each button before increasing your speed. Then choose another bass or chord target and explore neighbouring fifths. Record a short passage and replay it to hear how long you held each button. Practise the melody separately, and combine the parts once you know where their notes are. The exercise checks button choices; it does not measure hand coordination or bellows movement.

Tips

  • Find C in the fundamental bass row.
  • Practise melody and bass separately.
  • Release the key for short articulation.
