Chord transposer online

This chord transposer moves every chord root and slash bass by the same number of semitones. Paste a chord sheet or a sequence, choose the new key and copy the result. Lyrics stay in place, and extensions such as m7, maj7 or (b5) are preserved.

Chord transposition in semitones

Transposing G to A raises every root and slash bass by two semitones while preserving chord quality.

How to use it

  1. Paste your text, or press Example.
  2. Check the source key. Correct it in Settings if the estimate is wrong.
  3. Use −½ and +½ or choose the new key directly.
  4. Try the capo calculator for easier guitar shapes.
  5. Copy the output or download a .txt file.
Help and explanations

It reads international chord letters C D E F G A B. Chords need their own line above the lyrics or square brackets such as [C]word [G/B]word. A line beginning Key: can supply the original key; otherwise the tool estimates it from the chords. Check that estimate before changing key.

Semitones, keys and slash chords

Every chromatic step is one semitone. Moving from G to A is two steps: Em7 becomes F#m7 and D/F# becomes E/G#. Both sides of the slash must move; changing only the root alters the inversion.

The automatic spelling follows the selected key. You can force sharps or flats in Settings. Transposing chord symbols does not create a melody or a written instrumental part, and the tool does not read staff notation or audio.

Capo and your voice

A capo raises open chord shapes by one semitone per fret. G shapes with a capo at fret 2 sound in A. The calculator compares frets 0–7 and highlights choices with more open shapes.

Fit my voice uses the vocal range previously saved on this device. It does not know the song’s actual melody, so sing the chorus to check the suggestion. Text is processed locally and stays in your browser.

Tips

  • Try a semitone at a time if a chorus feels too high.
  • Check the key before copying a long sheet.
  • A capo changes guitar fingering; it is not needed for saxophone transposition.
  • The tool transposes your own text; it does not host a song catalogue.

Frequently asked questions

How do I transpose a chord sheet to another key?

Paste your chord sheet and choose the new key. Chord roots and slash-chord bass notes move by the same interval.

How does the capo calculator choose a fret?

It compares guitar chord shapes at different capo frets for the same sounding key. Choose an option that suits your playing.

Can I transpose chords for piano?

Yes. The chord symbols and bass notes transpose for piano too; the capo recommendations concern guitar shapes.

Does this work for ukulele chord sheets?

Yes, the chord names transpose. The capo estimate is based on guitar shapes rather than ukulele fingerings.

Will transposing change the lyrics?

The tool changes chord-only lines and chords in square brackets while preserving the lyrics. Check the result before copying it.

Do I need to install a chord transposer app?

No. You can use this page in a phone or computer browser without installing an app.
