Audio Converter: Extract Audio from Video

Convert songs (MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC), WhatsApp voice notes (Opus) and MP4, MOV or WebM videos from your device to M4A, OGG or WAV. Pick one file or many and download each result, or everything together in a ZIP.

      How to use it

      1. Pick the format under Convert to: M4A to play anywhere, OGG for the smallest file, WAV to edit without loss.
      2. Tap Choose files and select one or several (or drag them onto the page).
      3. Tap Convert: the files are converted one at a time, each with its own progress.
      4. Download each result with its own button or use Download all (ZIP).
      Help and explanations

Conversion runs in your browser with no upload: big files don't have to go anywhere, there's no queue and nobody else gets to see your audio. That's also why links aren't accepted: the tool doesn't download videos from YouTube, Instagram or TikTok; it only converts what you already have.

Extract audio from a video without losing quality

Phone videos (MP4 on Android, MOV on iPhone) already store the sound as AAC. With M4A and the copy without re-encoding option, the converter just pulls out the audio track: it's ready in seconds, even for a video of several gigabytes, and the sound is identical to the original. With mono, OGG or WAV, the audio is decoded and encoded again.

M4A, OGG or WAV: which one to choose

M4A (AAC) is the most compatible: Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, car stereos and WhatsApp; 128 kbps already sounds very good. OGG (Opus) is the format of WhatsApp voice messages and gives the smallest file, but older iPhones may not open it. WAV is uncompressed: it's meant for editing and takes up about 10 MB per minute.

There's no MP3 output: browsers don't ship with an MP3 encoder, and the most widely used free encoder has a license that doesn't fit the site. M4A replaces MP3 on any current device, with the same or better sound at the same size.

      Tips

      • For speech (lectures, meetings, voice notes), tick Merge to mono and use the lowest quality: the file shrinks by half and the voice stays clear.
      • Converting from one lossy format to another (MP3 to M4A) won't bring back quality: use the same bitrate as the original or higher.
      • On a phone, convert only a few long files at a time: each one is loaded fully into memory.
      • Only need part of it? Use the audio cutter, which opens video too.

      Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a video to audio?

Choose M4A, select the video (MP4, MOV or WebM) with Choose files, tap Convert and download. With phone videos the audio is copied without re-encoding: it takes seconds and there's no loss.

Does the converter make MP3 files?

No: browsers have no MP3 encoder, so the output is M4A, OGG or WAV. M4A plays everywhere MP3 does, including WhatsApp and car stereos. MP3 files work fine as input.

How do I convert a WhatsApp voice message to M4A or WAV?

Save the voice note to your device (.opus or .ogg) and open it here. M4A to listen anywhere, WAV to edit. Opus opens in Chrome, Edge and Firefox; on iPhone it depends on your iOS version.

Can I convert a YouTube, Instagram or TikTok video from a link?

No. The tool doesn't download anything from the internet and doesn't accept links; it only converts files already on your device, like videos you recorded yourself.

Can I convert several files at once?

Yes. Select several, tap Convert and download them one by one or all in a ZIP. If you change the format, Convert redoes only what's needed.

      Is there a size limit?

There's no limit on uses. An MP4 or MOV video whose audio is copied without re-encoding can be any size. When the audio has to be decoded, memory is the limit: on a phone, up to about 40 minutes per file.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The files are read, converted and delivered right in your browser; nothing leaves your device.
